Family-Friendly New Years Celebrations on Long Island

When ringing in the New Year with children, it can be challenging to find family-friendly celebrations. As always, Your Local Kids seeks to provide you with the most extensive list of parent resources on Long Island in both Nassau County and Suffolk County. Here are some great events happening locally:

Nassau County

  • Join the Long Island Children’s’ Museum with their annual ‘Countdown to 12’. Offers face painting, activities, and a dance party. From noon to 4:00 p.m. Included with museum admission.
  • Darling & Divas of Amityville will be celebrating the New Year in style. Kids can get a mini-manicure, new hairstyle with accessory, and their makeup done. There will also be pizza, drinks and dessert. Includes dance party and mock count down with confetti, noisemakers and balloon drop. Two sessions, 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. $29.99 per child.
  • Eisenhower Park is hosting a ‘New Years Eve’ Dash. For adults, it features a 5K Race that kicks off at Midnight; proceeds go towards LICADD. Kids can enjoy ice-skating and the after party. The party will have a DJ, buffet, and dessert. Cost varies; check pricing here.

Suffolk County

  • The Long Island Aquarium is hosting a ‘Fishes and Wishes’ New Years Celebration. Begins at 6:30 p.m. Offers a buffet, cocktail hour, ice cream bar, crafts, and dancing. When the ball drops, they will even have a mock toast for the kids to take part in. $60 ($55 members) for Children 3-12 and Seniors 62+. $95 for adults ($85 members). Children 2 and under are free.
  • In Patchogue, Seriously Spoiled will be offering a glitter makeover, karaoke, dancing, a mini-manicure, and giveaways. For dinner, there will be pizza and sparkling pink lemonade. $34.95 per person, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • At Safari Adventure, there will be a New Years’ Celebration from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Balloon Drop at 7:15 p.m. The party will feature a DJ, interactive dances, noisemakers, favors, and plenty of games and activities.

If you’re staying home this year, you can have your kids help prepare some healthy snacks for your celebration. If you’re throwing a party of your own, Your Local Kids has some suggestions on keeping children entertained. However you choose to celebrate, letting the kids take part in the festivities can be very enjoyable for the both of you.
