Keeping with the Chabad tradition of creating incredibly fun and exciting holiday programs for the entire Jewish community, Chabad of Merrick-Bellmore-Wantagh will be hosting its 13TH annual PURIM AROUND THE WORLD celebration with an “Italian” twist.
Purim commemorates the escape of the Jewish People from annihilation by the ancient Persian Empire, and is celebrated by the exchange of food packages between friends, giving charity to the poor, eating a traditional festive meal, and reading the story of Purim from the Megillah (Purim scroll).
“We focus on doing interesting and innovative holiday programs while still keeping with the holiday theme”, said Rabbi Shimon Kramer. “This party will combine ancient Jewish traditions with an Italian feel.
“After last year’s successful Purim in the Stadium, we are celebrating with a DIY Pizza Bar, kosher gourmet Italian cuisine, fine Italian wine tasting, a masquerade and photo booth!” says Chanie Kramer, program director; “and are hoping to give everyone a great & meaningful time.”
This year on the Purim holiday-Thursday, March 21, Chabad will hold the “Purim in Italy” celebration for young and old at the Clubhouse at the Merrick Park Golf Course at 2550 Clubhouse Road in Merrick. All are welcome, regardless of background or affiliation. A multi-media Megilla reading is at 5:30 pm and the program follows.
